Jeff Green for Governor
The crowded race for Governor of Florida heated up this week when Jeff Green decided to toss his name in the ballot. Green filed papers declaring his candidacy for governor this past Friday, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
Green, a Democrat, has been to this show before. He ran for Congress in California as a Republican in 1982 as well as an unsuccessful bid for U.S. Senate in 2010. As he did back in 2010, Green will be putting a lot of his own “green” into his campaign. Green pumped $24 million into that 2010 campaign. Forbes listed Green’s net worth at $3.8 billion, so it’s safe to say he has enough to run for a political position again.
With roughly three months left until primary election day, Green will be battling from behind. However, Green’s money will be a helpful factor in what has been a wide-open race thus far despite his late entry. Phillip Levine, a poll-leading candidate, has promoted himself on TV thanks to $8 million of his own money. Green tripled that amount while he ran for Senate, thus showing his financial power to back his campaign.
As Ben Franklin put it, “Time is Money”, and Green’s time is starting to rack up quick, can’t wait to see the results.
